Although many red-carpet interviews during this year’s VMAs chose to characterize Miley Cyrus' busy schedule as having a new haircut and a fiance, the artist formerly known as Hannah Montana has actually been working for the better part of the year on a new album - with music due in the coming months.
She told Billboard backstage at the iHeartRadio Music Festival that she hopes to have a new single out by year’s end, with a full album due in early 2013. “I wanna make a sick record,” she said.
Among her recent collaborators? Pharrell Williams, a longtime idol of Cyrus’, and hip-hop production duo Da Internz, the studio whizzes notably behind recent hits like Rihanna’s “Birthday Cake” and Big Sean’s “A$$.”
"I’ve been in so many sessions and just kind of bunkering down and working really hard and perfecting everything," she said. "I’ve never really had time to do that, to kind of have my record kind of ‘done’ and then sit there and make it until it’s perfect. So, it’s been really, really fun. This whole year that’s all I’ve really dedicated life to."
Cyrus, who introduced Lil Wayne at iHeartRadio Fest on Friday, said she’s been meeting with labels about releasing the new music (her relationship with longtime label Hollywood Records is unclear). But for now, she’s just “enjoying making the record I want to make before there gets be too many people” involved in the equation.
She added, “I just want to make sure it’s exactly what I want first.”
Since 2007, the singer-actress has released three studio albums under her own name, all with Hollywood Records. Two of them, “Meet Miley Cyrus” and 2008’s “Breakout,” topped the Billboard 200, while her last album, “Can’t Be Tamed,” reached No. 3 in 2010.
Flavor Flav Mistakes Miley For Gwen Stefani
Miley Cyrus showed off her toned abs as she rocked her now signature platinum blonde bouffant at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas Friday night.
The 19-year-old engaged starlet flaunted her trim figure in a skimpy black crop top, while keeping modesty by a metallic silver high-waisted skirt. Cyrus completed her punk look with a golden Moschino belt and leopard print heels.
Miley Cyrus joined the event as a guest presenter, and was seen mingling playfully with many guests back stage, including Gwen Stefani and Jon Bon Jovi. The 19-year-old was also snapped with Korean rapper Psy, whose “Gangnam Style” went unstoppably viral online.

Both girls rock the monochromatic look
Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato might be old friends, but they’ve got two very different looks going on these days. Both gals were out and about at the iHeartRadio festival in Las Vegas yesterday so what better way to compare their styles than with a fash off?
Working the pineapple look once again, Miley styled her hair up as high as it would go, keeping things sleek and demure in a cropped black polo and silver pencil skirt.
Accessorising with leopard print heels, a gold belt and matching watch, Miley kept her make up neutral, penciling around her eyes with a light covering of kohl and finishing off the look with rosy pink lips.
All in all, we think it’s a pretty grown up and striking look, but is that the infamous under-the-boob tattoo we see poking out?
Also into the rock ‘n’ roll look, Demi again opted for dark, simple colours but showed off her pins in this figure-hugging number. Sticking with a simple shape, the dress is jazzed up with gold detailing and cut outs that run up the sides.
Showing off that brand new fringe, she also kept the accessories to a minimum, but we’re loving those towering black heels - we certainly wouldn’t be messing with Demi in those bad boys.
Loading her fingers with rings, Demi’s also kept her make up simple but dramatic with some very smoky eyes.
But whose look do you like best?
Kathy Griffin Talks About Miley at the iHeartRadio Music Festival
Interview at the iHeartRadio Music Festival
Director Adam Shankman assembled an all-star cast for his latest project: A Rock the Vote PSA encouraging young people (and the pop-culture obsessed population in general) to get to the polling booths this November.
The video, which doesn’t skew toward either party, includes stars like Miley Cyrus, “Glee’s” Jenna Ushkowitz, Kathy Griffin, Neil Patrick Harris, Miranda Cosgrove, Joel McHale, and more announced “We will!” vote this fall.
Vinny Guadagnino of “Jersey Shore” fame also participated in the video. Folks, this is the one and only time you should take the advice of a “Jersey Shore” cast member.
Check out all the familiar faces — plus some serious dance moves, since it is a Shankman production after all — in the video below!
The star’s makeup artist gives the inside scoop on how to achieve her smoky eyes and coral lip look.
“Miley and I wanted to pair something fresh and edgy to compliment her new look. For the eyes, I wanted a subtle winged liner which I created using MAC Fluidline in Dark Diversion to enhance her vibrant almond shaped eyes. Then, we decided to do a no-shadow look and applied a hint of Vaseline on the eyelid to give a dewy and slick finish. We topped her eye look off with Make Up For Ever outer lashes. I added MAC Color Cream in Pearl as a highlighter around the eyes and on top of the nose. To finish off the look, I applied Make Up For Ever Aqua Cream in Coral on Miley’s lips for a pop of color.”
No. 18: Miley Cyrus
Birthdate: November 23, 1992 (age 19)
Why She’s Hot: Miley Cyrus' musical career has been quiet thisyear, but that's looking to change in 2013. The former “Hannah Montana” actress recently passed her role in Adam Sandler's animated “Hotel Transylvania” along to Selena Gomez so that she could spend time working on her follow-up to 2010's “Can't Be Tamed,” which debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200. (Cyrus tweeted that Pharrell Williams will be one of the album's producers and that a single will be released by the end of the year). The 19-year-old star — who has been buzzing since debuting her platinum blonde pixie cut last month — also landed a role on the upcoming season of “Two and a Half Men,” premiering Sept. 27. Oh, and of course, she also has a wedding to plan, following her June engagement to “Hunger Games” actor Liam Hemsworth.
